Yandex to contest crt ban to show “smart voting” search results

MOSCOW, Sep 6 (PRIME) -- Russian Internet company Yandex will challenge a court decision that prohibits it from showing search results for the request “smart voting,” the company told PRIME on Monday in a statement.

“We disagree with the court and will contest the interim measures. It’s unclear from the document what exactly we must do and how it can be done,” the statement read.

The Moscow Arbitration Court earlier forbade Yandex and Google’s search systems to show in results of the “smart voting” search. The court sided with Stavropol-based wool company Woolintertrade that went to court to protect its exclusive rights to trademark “Smart Voting” it registered. These are temporary actions, and the court will consider the lawsuits in November.

The image of Woolintertrade’s trademark is similar to the one used by Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny’s team to support opposition candidates at elections.
